Collecting Cabochons

A cabochon is basically a flat backed piece, usually a gemstone of some kind but it's a termed used

most readily to describe something with a flat back.  The furniture appliques I make all have flat

backs, so technically they are cabochons but usually when i'm referring to a cabochon I mean the

smaller pieces I create that are the basis of my pins, brooches, pendants, magnets and decoration on
plates, boxes, jars and mirrors.

These little works of art and just such a joy to have and hold.  Each one is an intricate little bouquet.
The layers of glaze give them a smooth finish that enhances all the details.  Sometimes I make baskets of roses, sometimes just groupings.  Recently I've been making Tussy Mussies.  Some I think will have a nice felt background and ribbon to created a very unique shabby chic ornament.

Adding a little bunch of roses here and there can brighten your day, I hope you order one just to see how sweet they are.

Shabby Chic Rose Pins

Handmade Rose Pins

I've recently been adding new pins to my Etsy Shoppe.  I made one that has roses in a Tussy Mussy Cone, groups of roses with handmade clay ribbons, on beds of leaves, in baskets and on hearts.  I also did a cute little Bluebird of Happiness sitting on a nest that I hand embroidered.  For that piece I secured the branch with embroidery and I used some of my favorite glue - Unique Stitch, that you can find at CreateForLess.

Cottage Decor

Can anything in cottage decorating be better than lace and roses........No, I didn't think so.
creatingcottage cottage style decorating
With that in mind I've recently completed this cute filigree plate, painted white (of course) adorned with a beveled mirror and completed with my handmade pink roses (of course):)

I really love this but I think the hardest thing for me to do is to put things up for sale on Ebay

Hope you like it too!

Shabby Chic Plaques, Platters and Signs

I've been working on signs and plaques lately for sale on Etsy and Ebay and thought I would share some here today.  I like being able to decide on the final design layout of the roses on the plaques, so to give me that flexibility I create each rose, rosebud, leaf or groupings of leaves as individual sets and affix them to the board or platter once the piece is painted and I've chosen the message.

Of course, like everything I do it's time consuming and just adds yet another step to the multi-stage process but I think it also lends to the creativity that is flowing at the time of assembly.

Anyway, I love just playing with all the little finished pieces......is that silly?

Shabby Chic Dollhouse Doll Miniature

My new passion for sculpting tiny 4-5" ladies perfect for that dollhouse in shabby chic decor.

There is something so fun about 'playing' with a little doll.  Every CreatingCottage dollhouse doll will come with some kind of rose accessory too.....I still have to sculpt those.

The miniature shabby chic 'yellow' dollhouse doll isn't wearing a hat, but her hair is done up in a Downton Abbey type up-do with pearls strung throughout.

I'll post updates on my progress with these.......now I want my own dollhouse!!!

furniture applique-pink arched swag

I recently finished some new furniture appliques.  This shabby chic piece has already sold from my Etsy page, but I liked it so much I thought it might be worth sharing.

The arched swag sits on a bed of clay leaves, clay ribbons and pink pearls also made from polymer clay.

If you are a fan of shabby chic you may also enjoy this kind of unique one-of-a-kind handmade furniture applique.
