Looking forward

I've been thinking about Fall, which then leads me to think about Halloween, Thanksgiving and, of course, Christmas and I've been working on some new ideas for the appliques.  Scroll work and combining my scherenschnitte with my clay for some delicate ornaments.

 

 These two really show the scherenschnitte inspiration, I think with a nice ribbon they will work wonderfully on a tree (especially a white tree:)

As for the scroll work inspiration, my new favorite is a biggie.  It's 7.5" x 4".  I know it's looks flimsy but it's actually amazingly sturdy.  I have a 'thing' for swirls and curves.......
 

 

Well, maybe laying this large scroll piece on lace wasn't the best idea.......I'll snap another one real soon.  

But, my Fall Applique photographed very well on the lace.  This is such a fun piece to use to temporarily update your furniture for the season.  The repositional putty I send along with the purchases allows the appliques to be temporary.  It's actually the only way I use mine at my house.  This soft Fall colored piece is one that you can leave up from September through Thanksgiving!

Blue-and-White ware

I love my collection of Blue-and-White ware. I have plates, eggs, cups, vases, jars....so many cute pieces. Not many of them are expensive but grouped together they look fantastic and make my open concept kitchen/dining area so warm and homey. With that in mind I was doing a little drawing the other day and realized a simple (well, pretty intricate actually) Scherschnitte would be a very inexpensive way to enhance the look and carry it into the hallway. My first attempt, this Japanese Jar inspired piece.

A great, inexpensive way to add your own handmade art to your home.....papercutting!

Fundraiser Fun

I recently had the opportunity to create one of my scherenschnitte designs as donation for a fundraiser benefiting Highland Hospital.  I'm thrilled to say my donation raised a nice amount of $$ for the hospital.

My design choice was dictated by the city itself.  Rochester, NY is known for it's Lilacs, so that seemed a pretty easy choice. Next, what would the setting be?  Thinking about all those lilacs, I had the vision of sitting by a window looking onto a field of them.  That's it!  the stained glass top of the window seemed even more romantic, but those panes would have been a bit of overkill on the bottom and would have taken away from the lilacs, so I kept that half completely open.  I think it looks terrific this way.  It's a one of a kind (my original pencil drawing is still on the back) but I do plan on making one for myself.

Catching the Winter Sun

There is nothing more precious in the winter than the amazing warmth of the sun and although we enjoy the sun all summer, I think it’s appreciated even more during the winter. There is nothing more beautiful than the sun shining on the snow and catching that little bit of warmth on a cold day.
Recently I've been working on my Scherenschnitte and decided that I’d combine my craft with the sparkle of light. So, I started making these stained-glass inspired Valentines for my windows.

I had no idea how time consuming they would be, from design to double cutting and then completing, but I really do love the effect. I haven't put these on Etsy yet, but now that I've made a few I think I have all the kinks worked out. Hope you enjoy!
