I've made a few new things from recycled soda bottles. I had posted before HERE that a few years ago I had painted a bottle to make an upside down planter and, so far, it's lasted a few years through summer and winter.
Now I've moved onto painting larger bottles to make my Plant IV. It works wonderfully with it's slow drip and it lets me focus on one or a few plants at a time that need a little extra. Especially when I have a new transplant, there's always extra watering happening then, as well as feeding and this just makes it so easy.
I love having the pop of color high up in the garden, especially early in the season and 3 ltrs is really a lot of concentrated application with the slow drip.
This plant IV is directed at my Hydrangea Tree. I've had so many neighbors ask questions and request them. I'm always happy to talk about my gardens or anything gardening!
The How To:
1.Clean off bottle from wrapper and any printing (goo be gone is great for this)
2.Cover in Gesso, let dry
3.Paint with acrylics
4.Seal with a spray shellac....2 or 3 layers is better than just one.
5.Drill hole in the bottle cap to the same size as your clear hose.
6.Tack in the hose with a little hot glue
7.If you don't have access to recycled food bags (the kind people need when they have a stomach feeding tube attached) then get a small diameter clear hose from your hardware store and find something to almost pinch it off all the way, so it drips out very slowly.
8.You're done - fill your bottle as often as needed with water or plantfood.
I'm adding this post to Show-n-Tell Friday, please visit there - so much more to see!!!!
Please feel free to convo me if you have any questions.

The bottles look beautiful after being painted. I remember my mom did the same with soda bottles a few years back and I helped her as a kid :D
